Prof. Dr. Martina Heßler – Social and Economic History and History of Technology

Martina Heßler is Professor of Social and Economic History and History of Technology at Helmut-Schmidt-University in Hamburg. The main research interest of Martina Heßler revolves around cities in the 20th century, focusing on the history of urbanity. Her previous research was on the significance of urbanity in the context of creativity (DFG-funded project in the research group “Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Wissenschaft und Technik. Formen der Wahrnehmung und Wirkung im 20. Jahrhundert“, 2001–2002), especially focusing on scientific work (Heßler 2007a; Heßler/Zimmermann 2008). She was a primary researcher at the BMBF-Förderinitiative “Wissen für Entscheidungsprozesse“ with the project „Visualisierungen in der Wissenskommunikation“ (2005).
