Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Bernd Kniess – Urban Design

As an architect, Professor Bernd Kniess is interested in projects focusing on a variability of uses and a reverse functionalism. Future transformation in self-building processes is therefore one of his research interests in his planning projects (e.g. Kölner
Brett in Friedrich 2010; Geisselstrasse in Neitzke/Steckeweh 2001) or in exhibition pieces (“processing uncertainty“, 2003; “Play“, “Migration und Stadt”, both 2005, and “explore”, 2006, in Ferguson 2007: 50ff.). To teach and research on the concept of relational planning he leads the interdisciplinary education- and research project “Universität der Nachbarschaften (UdN) in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg since 2008.
